How the 24h window works
For each leg, the 24-consecutive-hour window runs backward from the planned release time. Any prior leg whose release falls inside that window has its flight hours counted toward the limit — so two short legs can combine to bust the cap even if each leg alone is legal.

Why does the 24-consecutive-hour window matter across multiple legs?

Under 14 CFR 135.267(b), the flight-time limit applies to any 24 consecutive hours — not to a calendar day. The window slides to end at the planned release of each leg. If a pilot flies 5 hours on Leg 1 and then 4 hours on Leg 2 the same day, the 24-hour window for Leg 2 includes Leg 1's flight time, giving a combined 9 hours — which busts the 8-hour single-pilot limit even though neither leg alone does. This tool tracks that window automatically for each leg.

Does rest between legs reset the 24-hour clock?

Not completely. The 24-consecutive-hour window slides to end at the release of each new proposed leg. A rest gap physically shortens the window available for prior legs to count, but it does not fully clear them unless the rest gap is exactly 24 hours or more. In practice, an 11-hour overnight rest only removes about 11 hours of the prior window — any flight hours from the previous duty period's last 13 hours still count toward the new leg's limit.

What is the duty period limit under 135.267?

14 CFR 135.267(c) limits the duty period to 14 hours for unscheduled one- and two-pilot crews. This is separate from the flight-time limit. A crew can be on duty for 14 hours but cannot fly more than 8 hours (1 pilot) or 10 hours (2 pilots) of that time as flight time in any 24 consecutive hours.

Do cumulative quarterly and annual limits apply to all operations or just Part 135?

14 CFR 135.267(a) limits apply to all commercial flying. The 500-hour quarterly, 800-hour two-quarter, and 1,400-hour annual limits cover total flight time as a crewmember in all commercial operations — not just Part 135 flights. Pilots flying a mix of Part 91 ferry legs and Part 135 revenue ops must count all of it.
